The USAID-funded Advancing Partners & Communities (APC) project, implemented by JSI Research & Training Institute (JSI), donated medical equipment to several public health facilities in Liberia including, Redemption Hospital, C.H. Rennie Hospital, Phebe Hospital, and Duport Road Health Center, among others, through its Ebola Transmission Prevention and Survivor Services program.
A handover event for the medical equipment was held at Duport Road Health Center, on December 11, 2017. High-level attendees included the Minister of Health, Dr. Bernice Dahn, the USAID-Liberia Mission Director, Anthony Chan, and APC’s Chief of Party in Liberia, Dr. Rose Macauley.
Mr. Chan presented the medical equipment, including a hematology analyzer, blood pressure machine, delivery kit, and infant resuscitator and mask to the center. This equipment will help health workers better treat and prevent diseases and improve the quality of care for Ebola survivors. Mr. Chan emphasized USAID’s commitment to building the capacity of health care workers and better equipping health facilities in Liberia to improve access to quality health services.
Dr. Dahn expressed gratitude to USAID and JSI for its contributions to the Liberian health system. “I am confident that because the Duport Road staff played a key role in identifying the facility’s critical equipment needs, the equipment will be properly used and maintained, and will enable the facility to provide comprehensive care to its large catchment community,” she expressed.
The equipment donation is an important step in ensuring Ebola survivors receive necessary health care and support, ultimately improving the health system overall.
